If AI cannot be expressed as a BEFORE or AFTER metric, it is research.

Sam Potnin

Leaders do not buy AI. They buy a specific change in a specific number.

If you cannot state the BEFORE and the AFTER, you are still in discovery. That is fine, but call it what it is.

Start Where Baseline Exists

Good AI projects start where the baseline exists and ownership is clear.

You pick one metric, like time to first response under 15 minutes at P80, or proposals sent within 2 hours at 90 percent coverage. Then you change the workflow, add templates, set service levels, and only after that layer small assistants to speed up triage, enrichment, drafting, and scheduling.

The Goal is Metric Acceptance

AI is not the goal. Acceptance of a metric is the goal. If the metric does not move in a measurable before and after, the work did not land.
